Sennheiser IE 300: inspired by professional in-ear monitoring headphones

By Editor 2 months ago

It’s all in the details: Sennheiser’s new IE 300 earphones want to be made to deliver nuanced, natural sound on the go.

At the heart of the earphones is said to be an improved 7mm Extra Wide Band (XWB) transducer that delivers warm sound and detailed resolution. The IE 300’s design was inspired by professional in-ear monitoring earphones to ensure a secure fit and hours of comfort, it adds.

Passionate music lovers want a premium listening experience and not just at home, but anywhere. Sennheiser’s new IE 300, said to have been designed and manufactured in Germany, is said to feature an improved version of the renowned 7mm XWB (Extra Wide Band) transducer for superior quality with warm sound and detailed resolution. Each component is said to have been carefully tuned to refine the listening experience down to the smallest detail: the novel polymer blend diaphragm film is said to minimize self-resonance and THD (THD: 0.08% at 1 kHz, 94 dB), while the acoustic back volume is said to prevent reflections in the cabinet. A Helmholtz resonator chamber is also said to suppress masking resonances in the ear canal for clear treble reproduction. With a frequency response of 6 Hz – 20 kHz, the IE 300 wants clear highs and transparent midrange reproduction for especially low-distortion vocal reproduction.

“When you have a passion for good sound, the details matter. We have carefully designed the IE 300 to reproduce every nuance in music,” said Jermo Köhnke, product manager at Sennheiser. “The IE 300 is designed as an everyday companion that delivers outstanding audio quality regardless of the environment.”

Comfort and listening experience in harmony
The IE 300 is said to offer exceptional durability and combine comfort with a design inspired by professional in-ear monitoring headphones. Its ergonomic features include a customizable, flexible cable management system and silicone and memory foam earmolds in three sizes (S/M/L). This ensures not only a secure fit and excellent wearing comfort for several hours of listening pleasure, but also optimal noise isolation – so music lovers can hear every detail of their favorite songs even in busy environments or on the go.

Years of listening pleasure
The IE 300’s included 3.5mm cable is claimed to be reinforced with para-aramid for superior stability – so it can withstand thousands of bending cycles and be flexibly replaced. For added strain relief, the high-quality, gold-plated Fidelity+ MMCX connector sits in a recessed, 4.8mm-wide socket in the housing. Balanced cables with 2.5mm or 4.4 plugs are also available as optional accessories. A carrying case for safe and convenient storage is included.

Technical data (manufacturer’s specifications):

  • Impedance: 16 Ω
  • Transducer principle: Single Dynamic Driver, Pressure Chamber
  • Weight without cable: 4 g
  • Sound pressure level at 1 kHz: 124 dB (1 kHz / 1 Vrms)
  • Coupling to the ear: In-ear
  • Cable length: 125 cm
  • Audio transmission range: 6 Hz – 20 kHz
  • Distortion factor at 1 kHz: < 0.08 % (1 kHz, 94 dB SPL)

In Germany, the Sennheiser IE 300 are expected to be available in the first quarter of 2021 for EUR 299 (RRP).
