Avantone Pro Planar: New reference headphone with magnetostatic driver technology introduced

By Editor 3 months ago

Avantone Pro has made an outstanding name for itself internationally with its groundbreaking studio tools.

The new Planar studio headphones are intended to continue this tradition in an exemplary manner and, with their magnetostatic driver technology, ensure an unprecedentedly accurate representation of dynamic as well as fine-dynamic relationships and also impress with an exceptionally wide and linear frequency response.

Comfortable ear cushions and a comparatively low weight are supposed to provide outstanding comfort during daily work in the studio.

Planar – the driver technology of the future
Headphones usually work with traditional dynamic cone drivers – and the associated disadvantages. For example, the combination of cone diaphragms with voice coils is comparatively heavy and thus sluggish, which can lead to limited treble reproduction and problematic transient imaging. For this reason, true high-end headphones have for many years used electrostatic drivers, in which a very light, electrically charged metal foil vibrates between two metal plates. However, electrostats also come with some problems: they require a high-voltage source and an extremely potent preamplifier to operate, which are usually included, making the headphones expensive and somewhat inflexible. Planar drivers combine the best of both driver technologies: The foil vibrating between two magnets is equipped with conductive paths through which the audio signal flows. This makes the supply voltage of the electrostat superfluous, so that the planar driver congenially combines the accurate reproduction of the electrostat with the uncomplicated handling of the dynamic transducer.

Avantone Pro Planar: Sound quality redefined
The term planar technology alone is synonymous with outstanding accuracy, impressive detail, well-defined spatiality, perfect timing, and deep and natural bass response. However, these benefits can only be put into practice with meticulous development work. As one of the most experienced monitor manufacturers, Avantone Pro is said to have perfectly coordinated all the individual details of the Planar and created a headphone whose sonic advantages are unparalleled, and not only in its price class. For example, the 70 x 95 mm diaphragms are said to be both exceptionally light and stable, and the magnet units on both sides are said to provide outstanding impulse fidelity. The open ear cups are said to have been optimized in countless listening tests for maximum freedom from resonance, so that they do not impede the diaphragm movements in any way. Powerful neodymium magnets are also said to provide exceptionally high efficiency and powerful reproduction down to the deepest bass basement. The Planar from Avantone Pro is thus said to have all the prerequisites to redefine high-quality headphone sound.

Groundbreaking wearing comfort
Even though Planar headphones are always a bit larger than traditional models, Avantone Pro is not content to compromise on wearing comfort. The Planar’s headband is said to have been optimized along with the ear cups for perfect balance. The spacious, soft ear cushions are said to adapt perfectly to any head shape. In addition, the open design of the Planar from Avantone Pro not only ensures a resonance-free and spatial sound image, but also prevents heat build-up during long listening sessions, so that the new model can be used for many hours without any problems. The developers of Avantone Pro are experienced studio practitioners who know full well that details are also important in the stressful day-to-day production environment: the Planar’s cable can therefore be flexibly attached to either the left or right ear cup, depending on the operating environment. A valuable contribution to ergonomics in the workplace. For easy and safe transport, the Planar comes in a convenient carrying case that also provides space for the cable and other accessories.

Planar from Avantone Pro brings color to the studio
The days when high-quality studio equipment looked gray, sober and boring are long gone. That’s why the Planar from Avantone Pro is not only functional, but also exceptionally well-designed and cuts a fine figure in any environment. And it comes in several colors, as the Planar is available in either elegant black or eye-catching red – the excellent sound quality, however, is the same for both variants.

Prices and availability
The new Planar headphones from Avantone Pro are distributed exclusively by Audiowerk in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and are available on the market immediately. The recommended retail price is €469.00 including VAT.
