ROCCAT, the Hamburg, Germany-based manufacturer of PC gaming accessories that is part of Turtle Beach, introduces the Elo Series PC gaming headsets, the first all-new products in its lineup of precision devices for PC gamers.

ROCCAT’s Elo series includes three different headsets, each of which is said to be equipped with premium comfort-oriented features such as memory foam cushions and a lightweight metal headband with self-adjusting headband, aiming to provide a unique, durable, and nearly weightless fit. The Elo X Stereo is a lightweight stereo headset with an MSRP of $49.99. The Elo 7.1 USB aims to go one better with 7.1-channel surround sound, ROCCAT’s AIMO intelligent lighting system, variable microphone monitoring, and a USB port for an MSRP of €69.99. The Elo 7.1 Air goes even further with wireless connectivity, Turtle Beach’s patented Superhuman Hearing Sound setting for an in-game advantage, and a long-lasting 24-hour battery life for an MSRP of €99.99.

All three headsets in the Elo series are scheduled to be available at participating retailers worldwide on October 4, 2020, and are available for pre-order now at ROCCAT.org.

Elo X Stereo Cross-Platform Gaming Headset.

Sennheiser presents anniversary edition of the HD 800 S

The HD 800 S Anniversary Edition, limited to 750 units worldwide, features an exclusive matte gold finish and the individual serial number laser engraved on the headband is a testament to the uniqueness of each headphone.

Hearing the difference in every detail

Brilliant highs, precise bass response and an exceptionally clear sound image combined with a frequency range of 4 to 51,000 Hz make the HD 800 S a popular choice among music lovers. The diaphragm of the 56mm transducer is made of Sennheiser’s patented Duofol transducer material, which is said to guarantee accurate music reproduction and reduce reverberation. As a result, distortion is said to be less than 0.02 percent. In addition, the innovative absorber technology reduces the so-called “masking effect,” an acoustic phenomenon that is based on the fact that the human ear cannot perceive higher tones at a lower volume when significantly louder tones occur simultaneously in a lower frequency range. The patented technology ensures that the energy of the resonances is absorbed, thus preventing unwanted peaks in the frequency response. It ensures that even the subtlest nuances of music remain perceptible across the entire frequency range, it adds. The circumaural earcups are also said to have been developed with great attention to detail. The design directs sound waves into the listening channel at a slight angle, aiming to create an impressively natural and spatial sound experience.

The anniversary edition of the HD 800 S is said to offer the same natural and spatial acoustics as the HD 800 S.

Luxurious design for luxurious sound

The anniversary edition of the HD 800 S will be handmade at the audio specialist’s headquarters in Wedemark, Germany, the manufacturer says. For the ear cups, Sennheiser uses fiberglass-reinforced plastic, a material from the aviation industry, so that the headphones are particularly durable yet lightweight. The ear cushions are made of a soft, vegan Verlours material and are said to guarantee optimal wearing comfort, while the grille and grills are made of stainless steel. The matte gold earpiece, decorative ring and shell ring aim to give the anniversary edition of the HD 800 S a uniquely elegant look. Each of the 750 units in this Anniversary Edition has its individual serial number laser engraved on the headband.

The HD 800 S Anniversary Edition is scheduled to be available from September 22 for EUR 1,599 in the Sennheiser webshop and from selected retail partners.

There are also diamond-cut details on the two ear pads. The headphones weigh 302 grams and are said to offer unmatched sound with adaptive, customizable noise cancellation. With noise-cancelling activated, battery life is up to 30 hours, with a quick charge of just 15 minutes providing an additional five hours of playtime. The dedicated and large 43.6mm drivers and new aptX Adaptive technology are said to create a realistic hi-fi soundstage, reproducing sound as it was recorded in the studio. Bose QuietComfort 35 II gaming headset introduced

Bose expands its portfolio and now offers its well-known QuietComfort 35 II (review) specifically for gamers.

For example, the noise-canceling headphones have been expanded with a detachable microphone. In addition, the “new” headphones come with an optional PC desktop controller that allows you to change the master volume and fade in your microphone signal, i.e. your voice, in four steps.

The manufacturer specifies the battery life as up to 40 hours in wired gaming mode and up to 20 hours in Bluetooth mode. Thanks to a 15-minute quick charge, there should be up to five hours more time for wired gaming and up to two and a half hours more in wireless mode.

Like its sibling, the Bose QuietComfort 35 II Gaming Headset is configurable via app, as well as Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa compatible.

330 US dollars is the price of the headset, so far it has only been announced for the US and China.

Turtle Beach has unveiled the Stealth 700 Gen 2 and Stealth 600 Gen 2, the next generation of its best-selling wireless gaming headsets for Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

Successors to the well-known manufacturer’s Stealth 700 and Stealth 600 headsets, the Gen 2 versions aim to take the previous best-sellers to a new level.

New from Jabra: Elite 85t and a free ANC upgrade all Elite 75t owners!

A decisive purchase criterion for new headphones is clearly active noise cancellation or ANC.

That’s why Jabra, Danish manufacturer of sound and video conferencing solutions, is also introducing ANC to its popular True Wireless portfolio with the brand new Jabra Elite 85t and an upgrade for the Elite 75t series (for review).

However, the Danes do not want to compromise on the slim design or the optimal fit of its headphones. The Elite 85t in semi-open design with new Jabra Advanced ANC and up to 31 hours of battery life will be available from the end of October 2020 for €229 (RRP). The ANC upgrade for the Elite (Active) 75t will be available free of charge via the Jabra Sound+ app from October 2020.

Elite 85t with Jabra Advanced ANC

The newest member of the Elite series features the most advanced and powerful ANC technology Jabra has developed to date – without compromising on size, wearing comfort or distinctive design, the manufacturer explains. Equipped with the new Jabra Advanced ANC, the Elite 85t aims to take noise cancellation a step further than Jabra’s standard ANC. Two chipsets in the headphones are said to provide powerful ANC as well as optimal sound processing to deliver outstanding sound. The Elite 85t are said to be among the smallest headphones in their class, offering premium ANC to create the desired quiet in noisy environments. At the same time, Jabra’s usual HearThrough is back on board to help target ambient noise in crucial situations – a popular feature for increased safety. Both features are customizable and are said to have been developed with a special focus on a natural sound image as well as limited occlusion (closure). Jabra aims to achieve this advancement through two innovations – the semi-open design and multiple ANC microphones.

For call quality, the Elite 85t rely on new technology with 6 microphones (three on each ear cup, two on the outside, one on the inside), aiming to provide excellent call quality for both the user and the person on the other end of the line. Added to this is improved protection against wind noise, which should allow for great call quality anywhere. The microphones on the inside and outside of the headphones are also used for Jabra Advanced ANC. In this way, they are supposed to provide improved noise cancellation and filter more noise. Via a dual slider in the Sound+ app, the Jabra Advanced ANC is individually and continuously adjustable from full noise cancellation to HearThrough mode. This means that the Jabra Elite 85t can provide a more customized sound experience where the user has control over their sound environment as well as the level of quiet.

Semi-open design

The 12mm drivers are said to not only give the Jabra Elite 85t great sound and powerful bass, but at the same time they want to ensure that the True Wireless headphones offer more comfort and reduced ear pressure thanks to the semi-open design. Jabra wants to achieve a better seal, which is a crucial factor for Advanced ANC, through the adapted oval shape of the EarGels. This also means that the Elite 85t no longer sit as low in the ear. This development should result in a more comfortable fit for every user, while also ensuring a very secure fit.

The Jabra Elite 85t are said to offer up to 5.5 hours of sound enjoyment with ANC on, which is said to be extendable to 25 hours when paired with the charging case with ANC on. When ANC is turned off, the compact headphones are even supposed to have a total battery life of 31 hours.

The Jabra Elite 85t are scheduled to be available at the end of October 2020 at an MSRP of €229 at select retailers. The headphones will be available in Titanium/Black at launch and Gold/Beige, Copper/Black, Black and Grey from January 2021.

Elite 75t with standard ANC

The popular Elite 75t (for review) will receive an ANC upgrade starting in late October, in both Active and Standard versions. The free firmware update to Jabra Standard ANC via the Sound+ app will allow users to filter out distracting ambient noise during music and media playback. Jabra thus aims to be the first company to offer an ANC update for an existing True Wireless product line. Only through the advanced development department of Jabra engineers on Qualcomm technology should this free upgrade be made available to every Elite 75t user. In doing so, Elite 75t owners are said to benefit from the digital audio processor already installed as well as Jabra’s ANC expertise.

The ANC-equipped 75t models will continue to be IP55/IP57 rated, it adds, and offer a two-year warranty.* With ANC turned on, the Elite 75t are said to get 5.5 hours of music enjoyment on a single charge (24 hours total with charging case). With ANC off, the headphones are said to continue to run for a full 7.5 hours straight and 28 hours together with the case. The new ANC is available as a free firmware update for all Elite (Active) 75t users.

A free ANC upgrade via firmware will be available for the Jabra Elite 75t series via the Sound+ app starting in late October 2020. This means that anyone who owns an Elite 75t product or buys a new pair of headphones will be able to experience the new Jabra standard ANC, which provides low-frequency noise cancellation.

Qualcomm publishes “2020 state of the art” report: “Sound quality is the most important feature”

Qualcomm’s first State of Play report, published five years ago, predicted that most earphones, headphones and speakers would be completely wireless.

This is exactly what is now a reality.

For the current report, Qualcomm says it analyzed the responses of 5,000 smartphone users in the U.S., U.K., Germany, China and Japan to determine their buying motives and what’s really important in the “wireless age.”

According to the study, 73 percent of consumers are now interested in being completely wire-free. True-wireless headphone adoption has nearly doubled compared to the results of last year’s report, from 23 percent to 42 percent worldwide, it said.

This year, convenience is expected to be the second most important purchase consideration next to battery life, reflecting the growing trend toward longer battery life.

Qualcomm’s findings also show that video consumption is the second most common use case for wireless headphones and the third most common for earbuds. In addition, nearly half of all respondents said they use wireless audio products while gaming.

Noise cancelling is now a key feature

Consumer demand for noise cancelling is increasing year over year, and according to Qualcomm’s report, 71 percent of consumers surveyed said they were interested in the feature. Noise cancellation is now the fourth most requested feature for wireless headphones, the manufacturer said.

Sound quality remains the decisive purchasing factor

Sound quality is the most important feature consumers look for when buying headphones and speakers, even ahead of price. For example, results show that 77 percent of this year’s respondents said they were interested in high-resolution sound quality.

Sennheiser introduces HD 560S for demanding music listening

Today’s music enthusiasts spend hours enjoying or analyzing music – be it the works of other artists or their own recordings.

The new HD 560S headphones from Sennheiser are said to offer exactly what it takes at an affordable price: the HD 560S aims to deliver natural and precise reference sound down to the deepest bass, revealing every detail. At the same time, it is very light and thus hardly noticeable on the head and ears, the statement continues.

The HD 560S’s transducers aim to be specifically tuned for accuracy and provide reliable A/B comparisons of mixes, sources and media formats. Its open earcups are said to allow for natural sound wave propagation, while the angled transducers are said to create an optimal listening position, similar to a carefully set-up recording studio.

With a frequency response of 6 Hz – 38 kHz, the HD 560S aims to reproduce the entire frequency range linearly and faithfully, right down to the deepest bass. At the same time, a high sensitivity of 110 dB/1V and exceptionally low distortion (<0.05% at 90 dB) offer expressive dynamics and clarity, even at high sound pressure levels, he said.

“We are pleased to introduce the HD 560S as an entry-level headphone for music lovers. In terms of price-performance ratio, this product represents a paradigm shift in open, dynamic headphones,” said Jermo Köhnke, product manager at Sennheiser. “With its linear acoustics tailored for sophisticated music appreciation, listeners discover music unadulterated from production to playback.”

The HD 560S’s ultra-lightweight housing is also said to provide undisturbed listening, as the open, circumaural design is said to not only produce natural sound – the vented ear cup is said to stay cool and not even touch the wearer’s ears. The velour ear cushions completely enclose the ear and are thus said to allow for comfortable long-term listening.

Since music lovers frequent a variety of sources, the voice coil is said to be specially designed to provide an exceptional sound experience regardless of the playback system. Despite the 120 Ω impedance, the drivers are said to be extremely efficient, allowing the HD 560S to be used with virtually any audio source. For maximum versatility, it comes with a detachable 3-meter cable with 6.3-mm jack and a 3.5-mm adapter with a flexible 15-cm cable.
